Associate Scientist/Senior Associate Scientist – Bioinformatics

POSITION SUMMARY:

Atalanta is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team to support our growing need for bioinformatics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn bioinformatics skills to perform cutting-edge drug discovery. The candidate’s biological foundation and experience with known bioinformatics databases will enable bioinformatics analysis of drug targets, drug design and drug characterization. Some hands-on experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data and knowledge of biology or molecular biology is required for this role. The candidate will be supporting multiple drug development programs for difficult to treat neurodegenerative diseases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform in-depth search of gene, transcript, protein, and variant data using publicly available resources to drive drug discovery efforts
  • Support therapeutic molecule design for drug discovery efforts
  • Analyze and interpret transcriptomics studies to address key questions in drug discovery
  • Work with team members to develop bioinformatics pipelines and datasets on cloud resources
  • Collaborate with various research teams and provide bioinformatics support as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience OR a Master’s degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related discipline is required Position level is commensurate with experience.
  • Previous experience working with data from molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology, or related biological discipline
  • Hands-on experience in bioinformatic analysis of next-generation sequencing data
  • Experience in programming, scripting, querying or statistical analysis languages such as Bash, R, python, or Perl is required
  • Knowledge of public genetic databases, biobanks, resources, and the bioinformatic tools used for these data analyses
  • Enthusiasm to help design and develop novel therapeutics targeting neurological diseases with a high unmet medical need
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively in technical and non-technical languages

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in cloud computing such as AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Experience with workflow development using workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake
  • Experience in creating dashboards with Tableau, Looker, Plotly Dash, R Shiny or something similar
  • Good foundation in statistics and exposure to machine learning techniques
